Telcos
Training and skills partner for New Zealand telecommunications companies
ETITO is the industry training organisation for telecommunications. It is our job to work with industry to ensure there are the people with the right skills and qualifications to meet the needs of companies, to develop more skilled and productive New Zealanders and contribute to a healthy economy. We are mandated by the Government to do our role and our organisation is grounded in industry ownership.
We first began working with telecommunications companies 15 years ago, shortly after industry training organisations were established in New Zealand.
Our work involves ensuring the industry has the qualifications and standards it needs to meet priorities, as well as fostering high levels of training achievement through regional training support and funding.
Each year we set priorities for our work based on consultation with the telecommunications industry. In 2011 our programme includes:
- Further work to support the industry's training requirements associated with the rollout of New Zealand's ultra-fast broadband network.
- Update qualification unit standards to reflect the ongoing shift to fibre networks
- Researching the strategic training priorities that will consider the future labour market, regulatory imperatives, new technologies and the requirements of industry stakeholders
- Collaborate with training providers to ensure a national and consistent approach to training development and work with them to tailor training programmes to meet the changing environment
