This qualification recognises a broad range of skills and knowledge common to all security officers as well as specific skills [strands] to match the particular type of service in which they are working in. In order to achieve the qualification, a trainee must complete one of these strands. A trainee can also complete additional strands, if they wish to expand their skills and knowledge.

• National Certificate in Security with strand in Event Security [Level 3]
  This strand covers participation in team activities, access control, risk management, plus health and safety.

• National Certificate in Security with strand in Retail Security [Level 3]
  Aimed at retail outlet security officers, this includes work on minimising retail theft and fraud, managing access and protecting stock and cash.

• National Certificate in Security with strand in Site Security [Level 3]
  This strand looks at maintaining security and safety by controlling access of people, vehicles, materials and substances, and by patrolling to detect abnormal safety or security event.

• National Certificate in Security with strand in Court Security [Level 4]
  Aimed at court security officers, this focuses on person and property searches, health and safety and operation of court security systems and equipment.

• National Certificate in Security with strand in Mobile Patrol [Level 4]
  This strand will educate trainees on how to provide security for a range of separate sites and locations on scheduled visits, as well as responding to alarm activations or other warnings.

• National Certificate in Security with strand in Secure Transport [Level 4]
  Trainees will learn how to transport cash and other high value objects in special purpose vehicles.

• National Certificate in Security with strand in Noise Control [Level 4]
  By completing this strand, trainees will gain knowledge around the conduct of noise control operations, risk management, safe and secure vehicle operation, preparation and processing of reports and records.

• National Certificate in Security with strand in Community Security [Level 4]
  By completing this strand, trainees will gain knowledge in providing security services to designated communities, in close cooperation with other agencies.
