QUALITY ASSURANCE IN THE SECURITY INDUSTRYETITO has recently conducted an inquiry into workplace assessment practice in the security industry. In the wake of this investigation, assessors can expect to see some changes.
An allegation was made in April 2010 about an assessor guide being made available to trainees undertaking the National Certificate in Security [Level 2]. During May, ETITO conducted an inquiry into the allegation and found that Allied Security, a registered training workplace [RTW] client, misunderstood their obligations regarding acceptable workplace assessment practices and distributed a guide intended only for assessors via email to trainees at two sites. ETITO is currently working with the seven trainees in this firm nationally whose assessment activities were active at the time of the email. This is to ensure that any assessment that took place involving trainees at Allied Security was not inappropriately influenced by the assessor guide that was distributed. Furthermore, ETITO has clarified in no uncertain terms the requirements of its quality assurance system as it relates to workplace assessment, and is confident that Allied Security understands their obligations in this regard. ETITO has also been considering a range of other assurances that could be incorporated into its quality assurance system for security industry training. Firms should by now have received a letter from ETITO reminding them of their obligations to support trainees with appropriate guidance and feedback, so that trainees demonstrate competency through their own understanding. It has also been requested that ETITO be contacted if there are any questions about practices they may have observed, or are considering. Moving forward, ETITO will look to implement several measures which will further protect the training system and ensure quality assurance is upheld. Shortly, you will be contacted with the specifics of these measures, and you can expect an overhaul of the assessor website security log-in system in the near future. Keep an eye out for a communication from ETITO asking you to confirm your email address with us. This will precipitate a change to unique log-in and password details for all assessors currently accessing ETITO’s assessor website. Rest assured that as process changes are introduced, they will be carefully explained to you and ETITO thanks you in advance for your support as it endeavours to maintain and improve on a high quality system. If you have any queries or concerns, please contact your ETITO training manager. |
