How do I become an ambulance officer?
Have I got what it takes?
Ambulance officers have a wide range of experiences and skills that they bring to the job including:
- Communication skills [verbal and written]
- Awareness of your environment and behavior, and that of others
- The ability to stay calm in difficult situations while those around you don’t
- A caring nature – not just for patients but for their family and support network
Because of the environment ambulance officers often work in it's also important to demonstrate:
- Integrity – acting in a trustworthy and honest manner, upholding ethical standards
- Good teamwork
- Professionalism – meeting the highest standards and taking the opportunity to continuously develop your skills
- Empathy – acting in away that’s sensitive to the needs of others
