How does national qualifications training work?
The training system
National qualifications training and assessment can take place in the workplace as individuals carry out their normal, everyday duties, externally through an accredited training provider, or through a combination of workplace-based and external training.
Some financial services organisations will discover that their existing in-house training programmes cover the majority of national qualifications training. In these cases, employees simply need to be assessed as competent for their skills to be recognised and a national qualification awarded.
The three main options for training are:
- Training individuals in your workplace as they carry out their normal, day-to-day duties
- Taking individuals off-site to an accredited training provider, undertaking distance learning or attending in-house courses away from their workstations
- Training using a combination of the above.
For many roles the demonstration of competence of skills outlined in the unit standards is best done in their normal work environment. In these circumstances off-site training is only effective if a person has the appropriate workplace experience.
ETITO support
ETITO provides advice, information and a variety of tools to assist in the decision to choose and implement national qualifications training in a contact centre. This includes an introduction to national qualifications training, an implementation planning guide, assessor training and materials, a candidate study guide and national quality assurance mechanisms for assessment. We also have dedicated staff to advise on and support implementation of the national qualifications training and assessment programme.
To assist with workplace-based assessment, ETITO offers a range of assessment guides and tools and provides a subsidy towards the cost of training a member of the team as an assessor [often a trainer, team leader or senior customer service representative].
Once a Registered Training Workplace [RTW] contract is established between ETITO and an organisation, ETITO is able to provide a subsidy towards the cost of training and assessment.
